Intermediate and Advanced Ballet

• Intermediate II level dancers are eligible to participate in the fall contemporary performance, VBC’s annual production of Nutcracker, and the spring performance. They may join the Touring Ensemble in order to be considered to perform at community engagement events. Separate performance fees are required to participate in these productions and Touring Ensemble with additional days/times for rehearsals.
• It is recommended that dancers invest in six classes a week: three ballet classes, two beginning pointe classes, and one modern class. Only dancers who are on pointe before Nutcracker will be considered for pointe roles, including Big Snow. These are the minimum requirements to improve in knowledge and body strength and to be considered for solos in VBC’s classical ballet productions.
• Students who wish to perform in VBC productions must be enrolled in four classes per week, including at least two ballet classes, one pointe class, and one modern class. These are the minimum requirements to continue to improve in knowledge, technique, and musicality. Intermediate II students not enrolled in six classes per week will not be considered for solos in classical ballet performances.
• Students will be evaluated after Fall Semester and undergo an end-of-the-year examination during the Spring Semester to determine readiness to progress to the next level. Promotion is not guaranteed. To progress, dancers must demonstrate the knowledge, strength, focus, and skill required to be successful at a higher level and to protect themselves from potential injury.
• Any student that wishes to perform Trepak in VBC’s annual Nutcracker performance MUST enroll in Character class. However, please note that enrollment in character class does not guarantee that a dancer will be cast in Trepak.

• Intermediate IV students who wish to perform in VBC productions must be enrolled in six classes per week, including at least two ballet classes, two pointe classes, one variation class, and one modern class. Advanced Ballet classes include Ballet, Pas de Deux, Pointe and Variations, Modern Dance, and Core Strength Training.
